A Taxonomy of Taxonomies

Barbara Blackburn has quite a nice introductory article in the May 2006 E-Doc Magazine from AIIM. She outlines very clearly how three types of taxonomy work (subject, business organisation, functional) and their advantages and disadvantages. However the piece opens more questions than it answers and finishes over-hastily, and I’d like to have seen at least a small discussion of how facetted taxonomies can help leverage the advantages and by-pass the disadvantages, which are almost always about partial views onto the content. Thanks to Gwen Harris for unearthing this.
